Buying a GrapheneOS Phone in Australia: What to Check
More Australian businesses now sell GrapheneOS and encrypted phones. Most are genuine, but the details matter. Here's what to check before you buy, from anyone, including us.
1. It runs genuine, official GrapheneOS
Official GrapheneOS gets security updates straight from the GrapheneOS project. Be wary of a "custom" or renamed operating system you can't update yourself: you'd depend on one seller for every security fix.
2. You can update it yourself
Security updates should arrive over the air, like any phone, without sending it back or paying a subscription.
3. It's set up by hand, and you know what's been changed
A good seller explains exactly what they've configured, such as USB data blocking, automatic reboot and wipe settings, and why.
4. The phone has years of updates left

5. No subscription or remote control
The phone should be fully yours once you've paid, with no server that can manage, track or lock it.
6. Real, local support
Can you talk to someone before and after you buy? Is there a registered Australian business behind the shop?
7. Honest claims
No phone makes you "untraceable", and no SIM encrypts your messages end to end. Be wary of sellers who promise either.
8. Clear delivery and pricing
You should know the full price in AUD, whether GST is included, and how quickly it ships.
